Charles Yu, time travel technician, helps save people from themselves in Minor Universe 31, a vast story-space on the outskirts of fiction. When he's not taking client calls, Yu visits his mother and searches for his father, who invented time travel and then vanished. Accompanied by TAMMY, an operating system with low self-esteem, and a nonexistent but ontologically valid dog named Ed, and using a book titled "How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe "as his guide, Yu sets out, and back, and beyond, in order to find the one day where he and his father can meet in memory.

A good mix of technical sci fi stuff and emotions submitted by lexinylander on August 7, 2018, 8:33pm "If I could be half the person my dog is, I would be twice the human I am."

"Dog sighs are some sort of distilled truth."
For being a book not really about a dog (theoretical or otherwise), there were a lot of good dog quotes.

I enjoyed the mix of intense sci fi babble and paradoxes and also the weirdly poignant commentaries on time and pain and hurt and being people. "Apparently, I am going to write this book, which appears to be, as far as I can tell, part engineering field manual and part autobiography." Also, the prevalence of grammar and tenses in time travel was so fascinating.
