This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog's search for his purpose over the course of several lives. More than just another charming dog story, this touches on the universal quest for an answer to life's most basic question: Why are we here? Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey's search for his new life's meaning leads him into the loving arms of 8 year old Ethan. During their countless adventures Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a beloved family pet is not the end of Bailey's journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders, will he ever find his purpose? Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh out loud funny, this book is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

A real dogs purpose submitted by rory campbell on June 24, 2013, 10:49am I thought that a dogs purpose was realy good. It was good because the dog died in every few chapters and that then he was reborn again and again through out the book instead of the end being tragic because the dog had to be put down. This book really made me understand what a dogs purpose is for real they are not there because they are or for entertainment. No nope a dogs real purpose is to be there for you, look out for you behind your back, and stay there until they have to go. The author really made the story goood and sad but happy. First the dog was wild, then Toby, then Fella for a couple hours Bailey with Ethan, then Ellie, Buddy then Bailey with Ethan again. I really like that Bailey got to find Ethan again and be Bailey to the end. Bailey had some really good owners and a very favored dog by most people. This book holds a lot of good parts, chracters, ends, beginings, friendship, and loyalty and bound together a good story.

Happy/Sad read submitted by purchasingqueen on August 12, 2023, 9:25am I'm not sure if this is the happiest sad book I have read or the saddest happy book I have read. Touching, heartwarming, tear-jerker, of a novel. Sweet, but be prepared to cry.
