COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fascinating coming of age story submitted by cowmooflage on July 14, 2014, 11:26pm This literary classic follows the life of a young boy who faces much drama and hardship. But amidst the scandal also lies endless narratives with impressively thorough descriptions of everything from the trees in the forest to the new lady he just met. Difficult to read if you get caught up in details. But if you focus on the greater story and less on the paragraphs upon paragraphs of narration, this really is a classic.

Growing up in a changing world submitted by KatieD on August 19, 2021, 3:18pm This is a typical Dickens' novel, where seemingly unconnected things connect in some way before the end. It follows the life of young Pip, who moves to London to become a gentleman after an anonymous benefactor gives him an allowance to do so. It gives insight into the idea of class and what it meant to be a gentleman in nineteenth century England. I found myself connecting with more of the characters in this story than I did in some of Dickens' other stories.
