cool submitted by readingking on July 13, 2011, 7:37pm nice

Amazing submitted by fdaudi on August 25, 2011, 8:47pm George Martin does it again! After finishing any book in this series I am always left perplexed as to why GRRM does the things he does in his books, but after letting what happened settle in I always come to the conclusion that there is a reason why he did what he did. And in Dance With Dragons I got that same feeling.
For those of you who have stuck through and are loyal readers you will not be disappointed. If you trust in what GRRM is doing in this book you won't be disappointed. As always GRRM keeps the reader engaged with plot twists and turns that makes the rethink and inevitably forces the reader to reevaluate where they thought the story would be going.
The author tells the story of all the other character you were itching to find out about at the end of Feast for Crows, but GRRM's writing style is long and drawn out one who not accustomed to his style may get frustrated with the amount of detail that the author hammers the reader with. However, what is common with this series and GRRM what the author describes subtly in the details turns out to be very very important later on.
GRRM by the end left this reader angry, upset, and depressed but also excited, amazed, and shocked. I highly recommend this series and this latest book by George Martin. I can't wait for Winds of Winter to come!

Great series submitted by ashflowtuff on June 28, 2012, 12:45pm Definitely read this series. Don't be intimidated by the length of the books. You will get sucked in and finish them faster that you think. Read them before you watch the TV show. This is one of the best fantasy stories I've read.

Great read submitted by A2Rasta on August 8, 2012, 7:45am These books really got me back into reading. After so many years of just reading textbooks, I was put off a bit about reading for fun. These books twist and turn and weave a huge story. If you're looking for quick resolutions to plots, you're in the wrong place. I suppose you should probably have figured that out considering this is the 5th book in a series that is 4500 pages so far with two more books (or more?) yet to be written / published.

Arrgh! submitted by slugwhisperer on July 12, 2013, 8:19pm I tried so hard to get into this episode, even to the bitter end of the book. Rather frustrating really. Perhaps I'll switch to the TV show.

The threads develop ... submitted by GJBarnett2 on August 8, 2013, 1:28pm ... and the tapestry continues to be woven. More surprising plot twists and unexpected deaths, typically grisly. Hard to put down.

A Wind of Words submitted by edawson on November 2, 2013, 4:14pm I couldn't put down the first 3 books of this series (and to a lesser extent, the 4th). But this one, after a few hundred pages, I had trouble picking up. Overloaded with minor characters and repetitive descriptions (sigils, meals, clothing) it really strays from what, for me, was the main plot of the series -- the Stark/Baratheon/Lannister relationship. I couldn't finish the book -- too much unnecessary verbiage.

Another good one submitted by jdgerich on August 3, 2015, 2:54pm Great to finally hear the stories of the characters missing from a Feast for Crows. Hope he doesn't take as long to complete Winds of Winter as he did this one!

Bloated and under edited submitted by mowjac on July 26, 2018, 2:17pm This book was completed after the TV series began and at least a decade after the first book, with the due date rescheduled several times. Too much detail about characters that were secondary that have now been pushed to the forefront and it's only half the characters, others are left hanging. Martin can't keep his focus and the book suffers.

Too dense submitted by Aimless on July 24, 2019, 2:36pm I tried to love it, I hated it

Cool submitted by ann arbor air on June 13, 2021, 12:57pm I LOVE DANCING WITH DRAGONS MY FAV DANCE Is the chacha

More and more complex submitted by Edigaet1 on August 15, 2021, 12:40pm Very intricate book. I can hardly wait for the next one! It's amazing how much thought's going into the story, and I love it!

eh submitted by kelleyc on August 16, 2021, 10:02am Obviously this entire series is great, but when we need to follow about 37 different characters all at the same time, it's hard to stay focused and really invested in the story.

complicated but overall quite good submitted by graytabby on August 7, 2022, 8:33pm it was great, cover to cover. couldn't put it down! however, there were a lot of characters with different stories which made it hard to follow.
