Weird and unsatisfying. submitted by eknapp on November 9, 2011, 3:37pm The book that became Blade Runner. Like a lot of Dick's later novels, it has some funky religious components. It ends on a depressing note of incompleteness, nonresolution.

I expected two things from this story: an exploration of what it means to be human (on which count I wasn't disappointed)and a morality tale about the evils and perils of xenophobia. I was surprised to find that the androids were significantly different from us. While they did have desires and hopes of a sort, they were self-absorbed beings, incapable of empathy or loyalty. If the message was supposed to be peace love and harmony, it was pretty ineffective.

Very Weird submitted by tbbrown76 on July 12, 2014, 9:03pm Cult. Very cult.

strange read submitted by avrogers1 on June 20, 2017, 3:26pm This is a strange book, I had a really hard time getting into it.

Unexpected, but fascinating submitted by terpsichore17 on July 26, 2018, 10:22am There's a lot that could be unpacked in this book - its treatment of moods, the question of who is real and who is a construct, the nature of humanity, the value of flora and fauna, the (inevitable?) nature of religion, etc.

I'm mostly struck by the difference between how this society regards animal and human life: the one costs thousands and thousands of dollars, the other...not much discussed except in contrast to android existence.

Also: I appreciate having the word "kipple" to describe the useless, multiplying objects that take over a space if not tidied up.

Not good submitted by lstorc on August 28, 2018, 3:19pm The pacing, acting, and plotwere shakey at best. The pacing was choppy and the characters one dimensional.

The movie hits the heavy themes submitted by gindacu on July 10, 2019, 11:01pm Quick read and interesting to note where the movie deviated from the book. To the wife seemed unreal at first but I just confused it with total recall!

Okay read submitted by gxtan on July 20, 2019, 6:08pm Was looking for a classic/older sci-fi book and decided to try this book (and also saw the movie, which is distinctly derived from the book but is not an exact visual reproduction). I liked it, and Philip K Dick created an interesting world with valuable questions about humanity, but I can't say I was ever fully invested in the characters.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? submitted by Varshini on August 3, 2019, 5:01pm I read this after watching Blade Runner. I didn't enjoy it very much. I found it peculiar and quite hard to read.
