Good Book (not for kids) submitted by Ilyjtwya on June 23, 2013, 6:25pm This book describes the author's journey from being a valet in a New Orleans hotel before Katrina, to moving through the areas of a hotel, to New York City. It provides an interesting look at hotels from the perspective of the personnel who work there (for example, they don't want to hear long drawn out stories backing up request, just make the request politely).

There is advice about getting what you want, such as free movies or snacks, although some of the advice might be ethically questionable. If you don't want to read through the entire book and just want the tips, they can be found in an appendix at the end of the book. Things a guest should never say, things a guest should never do, things every guest must know, and Finding your agent.

It was an entertaining book, and I recommend reading the whole thing at least for the detailed insider perspective. Especially if you plan on booking a hotel soon.

Hotel Confidential submitted by sdunav on July 1, 2013, 5:00pm I know everyone is comparing this to "Kitchen Confidential", and rightly so. The author is also more than a little like Bourdain, with his drinking and traveling around. It's an interesting insider look at the hospitality industry, though Tomsky's florid descriptions (especially of New Orleans) got on my nerves sometimes.

not good for kids submitted by michael007 on July 5, 2013, 5:07pm It is a not good for kids.

Funny, quick read submitted by gxtan on August 10, 2018, 10:03am This book (probably) won't become a great work of literature any time soon, but it's funny, and a relatively quick, light read. It has the feel of a tell all book without being vindictively revealing.
