Doesn't Convey Its Intended Message submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:47pm I was disappointed by this book, as its intended lesson (if you love something, keep at it) and its actual lesson (thinking you’re better than everyone and therefore above the rules pays dividends as long as you’re right) seem to be a little divergent. As with all of Tommy dePaola’s books, the illustrations have a wonderful lived-in quality to them, which is especially important given that this is an autobiographical story about his own lifelong love of drawing, and his passion for illustration is evident throughout. I wanted to love this, but something about the way that the message is delivered just feels a little off.
