Zen Navigation submitted by josephwb on July 13, 2014, 2:59pm I think I like the Dirk Gently novels more than the HHGG books (although, it is close). Just as cerebrally hilarious as the HHGG books, but with a intricate detective element that adds to the page-turning-ness. This is the second of two Gently books, the other being "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency". [DNA was actually working on a third when he died; an unfinished draft can be found in the collected works The Salmon Of Doubt (http://www.aadl.org/catalog/record/1188855)]. Dirk is a "holistic detective", meaning that in pursuing a case he searches for "the fundamental interconnectedness of all things". Some of the methods he employs to carry this out are clairvoyance, quantum physics, time travel, and "zen navigation" which entails finding any car that looked as if it knew where it was going and follow it (“I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.”).
