COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Beautiful submitted by jackson.sarah.jean on November 16, 2015, 9:45am A great book about making your world beautiful, this lady does it with flowers.

Racist images submitted by brenna.reichman on July 28, 2016, 8:47pm The main character's grandfather carves "Indians out of wood to put in front of cigar stores". This kind of writing and imagery perpetuates thinking that Indians are an extinct group of people. The pictures perpetuate exotification and stereotypes of Indians. In addition, the only other people of color in the book are in "faraway lands" where they are serving or waiting on this white woman. This book has a good message, but the racism depicted makes it such that I will not read this book to my child.

Would give it 10 stars if I could submitted by hiwatson09 on July 19, 2019, 9:08pm What a profound, important book to read to your child! Still shaping my life & remembering this book often as an adult.

Beautiful illustrations submitted by ginarae3 on August 21, 2019, 1:18pm This is a great book for all ages. It mystifies me how it didn't win a Caldecott medal.

Beautiful. submitted by AGAPHD on July 5, 2020, 8:33pm Every page is a work of art!

Gorgeous submitted by GSchne on July 23, 2022, 9:33pm The illustrations are gorgeous. On top of that, it's a good inspirational story.

WONDERFUL STORY submitted by Ranamosleh on June 30, 2023, 9:40pm Spent a month on it learning vocabulary and about far away places that Ms. Rumphius went. This is a very special story about an adventurous lady with a mission.
