Funky illustrations submitted by FordAlpha on August 15, 2018, 10:43pm Helen Ketteman and Will Terry have previously collaborated on another shifted-setting fairy tale, "The Three Little Gators", which my kids love. My kids and I were much less enthusiastic about this book, which shifts "The Gingerbread Man" into a Southwestern setting. For one thing, Terry's illustrations are just plain funky. The little gordita looks like a mutant slug in a cowboy hat, and there's a truly bizarre rubber-legged spider. For another thing, the text aims for, but badly misses, the rhythmic repetition that makes "The Gingerbread Man" so much fun to recite or read aloud.
