Great book submitted by peterflorence on July 28, 2014, 6:36pm This book is great!! You should definitely read this book.

Wonderful Classic - Review by MorahJ submitted by Hebrew Day School of Ann Arbor on April 10, 2016, 5:00pm As both a parent and a teacher, I have loved sharing this book with my kids. Henry Huggins was Beverly Cleary's first book, and even though it was published 66 years ago, it still appeals to children today. From the first chapter, when Henry finds a dog and tries to bring him home on the bus, to the last, Henry has lots of adventures that provide suspense and amusement.

I am delighted to give this classic five stars. Henry is a likable character whom kids can relate to; he is eager, caring, and determined but certainly makes his fair share of entertaining mistakes. The pace of the story is just right, with enough description for readers and listeners to easily imagine what's happening, but with enough suspense and action to keep us wanting more. Children who have read other books by Beverly Cleary love when other characters, such as Beezus and Ramona, are mentioned. I highly recommend this book to elementary students who are ready to read longer chapter books, as well as families looking for a great book to read together. Enjoy!

Timeless classic submitted by mickplu on July 28, 2018, 10:39pm I loved this book as did all of my brothers. Ribsy the dog is the highlight of the story, but Henry is great too.

Child's Favorite submitted by Rachlancy on July 7, 2019, 8:33pm My six year old daughter couldn't wait to tell me about the story line as she progressed each day. She loved the characters and found their predicaments interesting. She is so excited to read more from this line of characters by Beverly Cleary!

Sweet book, with a hiccup submitted by sarajowaycee on February 25, 2024, 1:39pm I am loving Henry as a character, and the book Ribsy is a 10/10. For this book I was happy to be reading aloud so I could skip a paragraph at the start of chapter 4 about a play in which the school children depict Indigenous people in a negative and stereotypical way. This is definitely a book of its time. If I could remove that paragraph for a new edition I would have no hesitations about this book.
