Perspective submitted by mbruno on August 10, 2015, 8:44pm This book gave a well balanced narrative of an act of terrorism that doesnt just affect Japan, but provides insight into how to make sense of living in a world plagued with the reality of violence. The first section of the book is a set of interviews of those affected by a chemical weapon released in a subway. These are voices that would not be heard in mainstream media, yet are invaluable stories. You can imagine what it was like and see, in part, the implications of what happened. The latter section of the book is about the terrorists themselves. The author also injects a few explanations, that he attempted to stay out of the first, (longer), set of stories, but decided to challenge, without being accusatory, the explanations of those involved. The voice of the author, the compassion towards the victims, and the truth of what transpired is not to be missed. I highly recommend this book to anyone who can grapple with the troubling topic. It's heart breaking but well worth it.
