slightly disappointing submitted by camelsamba on June 22, 2015, 4:43pm This was a slightly disappointing implementation of a good idea (with part of the proceeds going to a worthwhile cause).

The premise is that this is a copy of Harry's textbook (which he shared with Ron), complete with some doodles and marginalia penned by the famous trio (yes, even Hermione gets in the action at least once). It's short - about 10-15 of intro & 40 pages of beasts. But if it's supposed to be a textbook, the entries are awfully short. Who is going to pass their OWLs with one paragraph about each creature? I mean, really. Perhaps if it had been presented as a Muggle abridgement of the official text, I could live with that. And I would have liked to see illustrations - even line drawings would suffice. (I'm not even asking for full-color full-page illustrations!) There are a few drawings, but it's not always clear if those are Harry's doodlings or part of the book. At least one (the troll) is clearly a doodle because it's sideways to and overlapping the text. But some have the text wrap around them (see Billiwig or Plimpy) which suggests not a doodle, unless wizarding textbooks are magic like wizarding photos and the text can reflow after it's been printed...

But wait, am I over-analyzing a pretend textbook from an imaginary school??? Yes, I guess I am!
