Magic Tree House submitted by camelsamba on July 29, 2011, 11:54am Young readers love this series. Parents who have to read them aloud can sometimes tire of the repetition. As I was reading this particular book, I thought "all right, this one really has dramatic tension, they really do get better as the series progresses." But then MPO took out a 2-by-4 and starting hitting us over the head with it. Oof. We get it! All life is precious! But how are scientists going to understand the sea and the creatures within if they can't study it? Anyway, too much preaching. Enthusiasm balloon seriously deflated.

Awesome series / great book submitted by TLW1998 on August 5, 2019, 9:17pm We love Magic Treehouse books. They are educational, and the characters are kind and sweet. The storylines are good, and I even enjoy reading them to my 4-year old. These books have just the right intensity to make you want to keep turning the page, but not scaring your kid. They are excellent adventure books where you learn cool facts along the way. And, they teach kids through Jack’s example to use books for reference and as a resource to help you. They definitely promote a love of reading by using books throughout their adventures.

I can not say enough good things about this series. It is the best children’s chapter book series that I ever ran across. We ended up buying the entire collection because we read them so often and again and again.

The Merlin Missions (later half of the Magic Treehouse series) are a bit longer and involve more magic and fantasy lands. They are great imaginative tales, and they are considered a little more advanced reading.

In this book (the 11th Merlin Mission), Jane and Annie (siblings) travel to a deserted island where they must find a secret of happiness to save Merlin.
