I haven't read much about K2, so I found the explanation of the mountain's topography and the insecurity of it's glacier interesting, and I think I enjoyed the brief rundown of the initial attempts to scale the mountain the most of the entire book.
Somehow this book just didn't click for me. Maybe it was because there were so many characters, or just that there were so few available details of the disaster. Bowley describes the conditions as best he can, but when disaster strikes, it's quite vague as to any possible causes. I understand the issue of conflicting points of view and recollections among the climbers, but it just seemed like there wasn't much to tell beyond the basic facts that many people attempted K2 on this day, several died and there were some long-shot survivors.
