COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Excellent, but violence tough to read submitted by jgetty on December 10, 2010, 12:06pm As all of the Anita Shreve books, this was gripping and excellent, and I couldn't put it down. However, I nearly had to take it back to the library when I got to the very disturbing and violent parts of the torture and deaths by the Germans to the villagers, it was terrible, horrible, totally inhumane, how could they be so cruel to other humans? I skipped over several awful descriptions, and ended up finishing the book. I really enjoyed the story and cried at the end, but that violent stuff was hard to take.
