Sweet submitted by Zekicmom on July 28, 2013, 10:35pm A nice, simple text book about the sounds animals make. Beautiful illustrations.
Polacco for the very young submitted by LibraryMaven on June 15, 2014, 3:22pm Readers follow a large and active collection of children and animals as they rush about their day on a family farm. Young children will enjoy the repetition of the text, as well as the various animal sounds that the reader is asked to make on each page. There is a lot going on in Polacco’s colorful, expressive illustrations beyond the simple text, from chasing after dogs to knitting scarves, making it suitable for readers beyond the animal noises phase. The book reaches a satisfying conclusion as the children reach their mother and her baby, who says “shh, shh, shh” to quiet down the farm animals and her brood of children. Despite the shh’ing at the end of the book, this is not the book to read right before naptime or bedtime since readers will want to bounce along the characters.
