Includes preview of "A feast for crows."
The Seven Kingdoms are torn by strife as the three surviving contenders for the throne continue their struggle for power, Robb Stark defends his fledgling kingdom from the ravaging Greyjoys, Winterfell lies in ruins, Jon Snow confronts an escalating threat from behind the Wall, and Danerys Stormborn and her dragon allies continue to grow in power. Here is the third volume in George R. Martin's magnificent cycle of novels that includes A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings. As a whole, this series comprises a genuine masterpiece of modern fantasy, bringing together the best the genre has to offer. Magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure fill these pages and transport us to a world unlike any we have ever experienced. Already hailed as a classic, George R. Martin's stunning series is destined to stand as one of the great achievements of imaginative fiction. A Storm of Swords Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world. But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others--a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords.

Let's Do The Twist submitted by jaegerla on August 15, 2011, 9:32am Twists and turns galore! So much fun.

Great series submitted by ashflowtuff on June 28, 2012, 12:47pm Definitely read this series. Don't be intimidated by the length of the books. You will get sucked in and finish them faster that you think. Read them before you watch the TV show. This is one of the best fantasy stories I've read.

If you likes the first two in the series, you'll LOVE this one submitted by hathaway1066 on August 1, 2013, 6:58pm I didn't have any problems with books one or two in the series--love'd 'em, even--but this one I really, REALLY loved. Hard not to get carried away with praising it and I want to avoid that so as to both not give spoilers, and because praise made too enthusiastically can have the opposite of the intended effect.

So just read it and enjoy--which you definitely will!

One bit of advice: find someone who's already read it that you can turn to at key moments to share. I thought my friends had read it but turned out they hadn't (yet) and it about drove me crazy not being able to talk out the excitement/etc. of certain parts.

The books are *NOT* the show! submitted by kjmclark on February 27, 2014, 12:53pm I've never seen the cable series based on these books, which from all the descriptions I've heard/seen is nearly X-rated. The books aren't any more than PG-13.

A bad thing about the books is that unlike, say, the Harry Potter series, there is not much in the way of building to a climax/resolution in this series. You could just about read from the middle of one book to the middle of the next book and call that a volume. With as many story lines as the author maintains at a time, and his apparent intent to keep writing these things for years, they do tend to run on a bit.

On the other hand, the author is doing a great job of maintaining all of the story lines as interesting, semi-distinct threads. And unlike a lot of 'going-on-forever' book series, some of the main characters are actually losing the 'Game of Thrones' and being killed/dying, while others just mentioned in previous books are becoming more prominent.

Worth the time reading them, though the library doesn't have enough copies to give you time to finish each book unless you're reading about an hour a day. You might be surprised how fast that hour is up.

dark and captivating submitted by kittenkat101 on August 10, 2015, 10:41am This book continues to develop the story began in Game of Thrones. No spoilers here, but the plot thickens and continues to get darker and darker. Keep reading!

Wonderful! submitted by ECReader on June 18, 2016, 11:34am This was my favorite book out of the entire series! There were so many surprises and twists in the story and I was never bored for a second. I couldn't put this book down and I highly recommend it.

Heavy, Excellent Work submitted by timdufresne on July 13, 2018, 9:02am Martin brings to life the suffering war brings to so many in society and works to undercut myths of glorious battle.

A storm of swords submitted by avrogers1 on July 12, 2019, 12:31pm This is one of the amazing books from the fantasy series that Inspired the Game of Thrones TV show. Amazing storylines, complex characters, and its really well written to boot. I couldn't put it down.

Too dense submitted by Aimless on July 24, 2019, 2:38pm I tried to like it, I really tried

6 stars submitted by jayzwack on July 30, 2019, 7:29pm This is the best of the best in fantasy writing. Couldn't put it down and couldn't sleep when I finally did.
