Berenstain early readers submitted by FordAlpha on August 12, 2018, 9:45pm The first "Berenstain Bears" books were simple, humorous, rhyming stories intended for beginning readers. In my opinion, they're the best of the Berenstains' work. This one is among the very simplest, although the beginning reader will need some extra help with the descriptive words for the increasingly fanciful hats. My 4- and 6-year-olds were much amused by the outcome of the protagonist's search for a new hat.
