Great end to a series submitted by steveiew on June 27, 2018, 1:13pm While there is more to this series than the story told, young readers will still enjoy this final installment of His Dark Materials series. This book is filled with adventure, suspense, and lots of fun.

OK submitted by VanCancue on August 9, 2020, 12:48pm I was under the impression this was primarily a fantasy fiction however the spiritual and political aspects were too religiously inclined for a fantastical view.

The character Lyra though attempting to be righteous and considerate was erratic and irksome. I believe the audiobook voice actors for lyra portrayed the character this way. The HBO series did a more likable job. Both mother and daughter were portrayed similarly with wavering loyalties. Really did not like the portrayal of the lead females in this book.

I had to read this audiobook at higher speed. certainly not my cup of tea but excellently adapted by the HBO TV series.

Despite being an avid fantasy fiction reader the way Lyra extrapolated lengthy detailed stories from the alethiometer made no sense despite cosmic like connection to dust.....

The parallel Mary Malone and mulefa story seemed barely connected and didn't seem to truly belong to this story but rather an appendix.

The story seemed to be conversational for 70 % of the book with two singular non adventurous ventures running in parallel waiting to meet up with an eventful ending in the last 30%.

As much as I could get through the first two books with a moderate pace the final story pace was so slow it took me weeks to get through. Despite all this the story is great but tedious.

Amber Spyglass submitted by kassafrass on July 21, 2021, 3:35pm Overall the trilogy has plenty of quirks and some unexplained or oversimplified solutions to plot holes, but I still enjoyed it to the end, especially considering the target audience. Most of the plot points were resolved in a satisfactory way.
