COMMUNITY REVIEWS

great book submitted by chloeandrews on June 21, 2011, 7:53am A great book about a girl that turns her neighbours into birds.

A lesson for some friends submitted by imsuk lee on June 28, 2011, 12:58pm I bet the girl's friends learned a lesson!

Dahl Spoilers submitted by Caser on July 6, 2011, 3:42pm I'd like to know if more kids or more adults read Roald Dahl's books. The stories so easily appeal to both audiences. Revenge is a key motivator, often with ostensibly positive results. And though the children might be troubled, the adults are nothing short of sinister.

In The Magic Finger, an unreliable eight year old narrator has a powerful Magic Finger that she uses for vengeance on the (Dahl-esque) unremorseful adults, such as her teacher and her neighbors, the Greggs. The Greggs are enthusiastic hunters, a heinous sin to our narrator, so their comeuppance is to be transformed into the ducks they so loved to kill.

Cynical adults will enjoy the dark, sometimes irreversible consequences of rash decisions, regardless of whether those decisions were made by children, adults, or ducks. Optimistic children will like how the Greggs eventually begin to enjoy their flying freedom and work together to build a new home when theirs is taken over by giant ducks.

good book submitted by ColeenT on July 15, 2011, 12:08pm loved it

bit pushy, but excelent submitted by ferdoble on August 11, 2011, 3:25pm This book is just as zany and wonderful as any other Roald Dahl book. Its a little pushy on the morals, but then its a kids book and it written from the perspective of a kid, so i'm more then happy to accept it.

Good but not great submitted by derin on August 15, 2011, 4:20pm This book was pretty boring and didn't wow me like the other Roald Dahl books. He could do better.

Love it submitted by tomiwa on August 19, 2011, 5:34pm Best of all of Roald Dahls books, other than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, for all you candy lovers.

The Magic Finger submitted by SBNB on July 7, 2021, 8:37pm This is a short Roald Dahl story about a girl who can make things happen to people who make her mad. My daughter and I had fun reading about the family who sprouted wings like ducks. Good book!
