Sure enough, Maya Angelou was that person. He noted that what he loved about Maya was the fact that no matter who you are or where you're from, you could have a pretty good understanding of what she was trying to convey in her poems. I never forgot that. Even if you're not deeply into poetry, Maya is that presidential poet laureate who has earned her stripes. She communicates history in all its depth and honor. Read it; revel in it. It is excellence.
