For the Birds submitted by KidBlue on October 23, 2012, 12:24pm This book works as a metaphor, I guess, rather than a novel about an animorphic animal. It's pretty simple writing, and more childish than childlike or good for kids. Actually, it's downright sappy. Jonathan has no real character at all, he just represents an ideal. Even the photographs of seagulls are bad. Why this book ever became a best seller I have no idea. It will appeal to the most extreme new agers and the most banal of sentimentalists.
Meh submitted by imracom on August 16, 2015, 11:17pm This book wasn't my favorite...
kind of lame submitted by gabbietucker on October 30, 2018, 9:03pm come on I wanted epic seagulls not boring plot for the purpose of life lessons
Kind of infuriating honestly submitted by nemiller on July 31, 2021, 12:12am I think the author thought he was writing a book about how important it is to follow your dreams, but the message ended up closer to: it's very important to be special and "not like other birds". I get the feeling Richard Bach did not do his own dishes.
Banal sentimentalist submitted by akdrake66 on April 29, 2023, 6:51am I guess I’m an old sentimentalist, but I loved this book as a young person and I say it’s ok to be inspired without having to be too highbrow, especially as a teen. Sometimes a 2x4 metaphor of a bird flying high is what you need.
