Hard to Read Aloud submitted by Meginator on July 8, 2021, 6:46pm Though I enjoyed this book’s illustrations and general storyline, the uneven rhythmic flow makes it unusually difficult to read at times. I was initially excited, as it seemed that the text was going to mimic the meter and rhyme scheme of “The Raven”, but it quickly falls apart and I found myself tripping over a lot of the lines despite the fact that I was reading it silently to myself and not aloud; I recommend that anyone approaching this as a read-aloud take a few practice runs to get a handle on the tricky parts. The story has its charms, with the Count welcoming the Sesame Street regulars to his house (castle?) for a Halloween party, but he doesn’t count his guests as they arrive, which feels like a missed opportunity. Overall, this was fine, but I came away disappointed.
