Sent Shivers Down My Spine on a Hot Summer Day! submitted by jaseagraves on August 18, 2011, 7:23pm A friend recommended this author to me and this is the first of the Anna Pigeon series that I've read. I chose it because of the setting in Michigan. Nevada Barr does a great job with character development and building suspense. I really enjoyed learning about Isle Royale, the U.P., and the National Park Service through the eyes of Anna Pigeon. I could imagine myself there, in her (snow) shoes. The Winter Study of wolves and moose that has been going on there for years is fascinating. Barr kept me guessing until the bitter (cold) end!

First I read in this series submitted by sfrantom on August 17, 2019, 10:00pm Just discovered this author that has a National Park ranger background and writes mysteries through that lens, and started with this one while I was on Isle Royale. Thankfully, I was reading it during the summer because the tale she spins felt very real and were it winter (when the story is set), would have caused me to stay locked in the lodge! Strong female lead and well-written cast of other characters, and good job spinning a very suspenseful tale (that can be quite violent in her descriptions, so be warned!).

Interesting Mystery, Wonderful Setting submitted by AGAPHD on July 28, 2023, 10:38am I was so happy to see Nevada Barr return to Isle Royale in this book! The descriptions of the winter setting and the wolf/moose study are great. Also an interesting mystery.
