Inspiration for life outside -- Putting out the welcome mat -- Creating community spaces -- Gatherings for friends and family -- Homegrown food and flowers -- Cooking in the garden -- Art in the landscape -- Places for play -- The joy of relaxation -- California style, coast to coast.
Kameon shares insights for making dynamic outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and usable. Inspired by the mid-century modern ethos that introduced the idea of everyday outdoor living, she explains how to construct complete environments - not just what to look for when choosing the paths, walls, and plants, but also the lighting, furniture, and accessories.

Useful! submitted by pbolz10 on August 2, 2014, 6:56pm These ideas are absolutely wonderful! I loved this book.

Great Photos, But More Useful for California submitted by Meginator on July 8, 2021, 7:30pm This book is full of photographs showing beautiful landscape design, but the advice and examples are very closely tied to California and to homeowners with a lot of land and money. It’s a nice book for blue-sky dreaming, but as someone with a modestly sized lot in a much more variable, cooler climate, I didn’t find a lot of practical inspiration here. It’s a nice book as long as you go into it with realistic expectations as to its utility.
