"If I could take what I've learned and make one menial job easier for you, or prevent you from having the kind of sex where you feel you must keep your sneakers on in case you want to run away during the act, then every misstep of mine was worthwhile. I'm already predicting my future shame at thinking I had anything to offer you, but also my future glory in having stopped you from trying an expensive juice cleanse or thinking that it was your fault when the person you are dating suddenly backs away, intimidated by the clarity of your personal mission here on earth. No, I am not a sexpert, a psychologist or a dietician. I am not a mother of three or the owner of a successful hosiery franchise. But I am a girl with a keen interest in having it all, and what follows are hopeful dispatches from the frontlines of that struggle."-- Provided by publisher.

Lena Overload, Even For a Fan submitted by Sara W on August 21, 2015, 9:28am I'm a fan of Lena Dunham's film and television work, I follow her on Twitter, and I'm generally interested in what she has to say. However, I found that her memoir just shared more than I was interested in hearing. I like her writing and I admire her forthrightness, but I found myself irritated by her neediness, her attention-grabbing, and in general, her over-sharing. I quit reading the book somewhere in the middle, because I thought continuing the Lena over-exposure show might prevent me from appreciating her in the future. I want her to keep creating and I want to keep enjoying it, but that meant cutting off how much I know about her awkward yet privileged childhood and mental illness. At the same time, I respect her ability to tell such personal details and strip herself so bare, but I'm not surprised she could do it. If anyone could give a warts-and-all accounting of themselves, it's Lena.

Lena Dunham submitted by crp on August 15, 2019, 8:17pm Weird memoir and contains some disturbing material

Blase submitted by robinmariepeterson on July 24, 2023, 4:39pm Not as creative or interesting as I expected, based on her writing for TV and short films.
