Landmark Being Replaced: Modern, low-slung aluminum marquees will replace this Huron St. overhang on the Allenel Hotel and a similar one on S. Fourth Ave. Both of the several-generation landmarks are being torn down.

Free Bulb Exchange: A customer serves himself, exchanging burned-out bulbs for new ones. Fifteen sizes of bulbs, ranging from 25 to 1,000 watts, can be exchanged at the Detroit Edison office at 401 S. Main St. Burned-out fuses and worn appliance cords may also be exchanged at no direct charge to customers.

Bowling Alley, Loungue To Close: The Huron Lanes and Huron Lounge of 320 E. Huron St. will be closing doors on Sept. 1. Owner Henry Platt yesterday disclosed that the building has been sold. Platt said projected plans for the site include the razing of the bowling alley and cocktail lounge, and construction of a high-rise office building.

Wins Pacesetter Award: Sewell H. Platt, owner of the Huron Lanes at 320 E. Huron St., has been given the Pacesetter award for December, the third monthly award of the Civic Art Committee. The committee expressed the hope that Platt's "tasteful modernization of the Huron Lanes would set a pattern for more improvement of the properties which surround the planned new City Hall." Previous awards have been given to the Ann Arbor Town Club and George G. Curtis for improvement to the Curtis Building. The committee was established by the City Council.
