The B. Side - Make Money While Learning New Skills

The B. Side is recruiting low-income youth age 14-21 who are out of school for the opportunity to participate in The B. Side programs. Qualified youth will have access to paid/unpaid work experiences, including internships and job shadowing, occupational skills training, assistance in securing better paying jobs, career development, and education all while getting paid.

B. Side Basics is a program that provides practice and study in the basic principles of entrepreneurship and business plan development. Participants are introduced to the concepts of entrepreneurship, receive training on writing and conceptualizing a business plan, learn product/concept development, and develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Youth who complete this program receive certification in introduction to business and entrepreneurial concepts.

Digital Inclusion (DI) is a social enterprise that trains community youth in basic computer knowledge, information technology, and digital literacy. The program also promotes technical and business skills development by training youth to refurbish computers and by giving them real-world entrepreneurial exposure through the Digital Inclusion virtual and physical storefront. Youth can receive course completion certification as well as CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals Certification.

55+ and Looking for Work?

The Washtenaw County Michigan Works! Agency will host an onsite event with AARP on Wednesday, March 26th from 9:30 am - 12 noon at the Washtenaw County Michigan Works! Service Center. Representatives from AARP will be onsite at the Michigan Works! Service Center to talk with older workers (55+) about the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). This program provides both community service and work-based training. Working an average of 20 hours a week, participants are paid the highest of federal, state or local minimum wage and are compensated by SCSEP directly. Participants are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities like day cares, senior centers, schools and hospitals. This on-the-job training experience can then be used as a bridge to find employment opportunities outside of the program. To be eligible you must be age 55 or older, unemployed and financially qualified.

Virtual Career Fair for People with Disabilities

Are you a person with a disability looking for a career opportunity or internship? This Virtual Career Fair is free for students and alumni from 2- and 4-year colleges and universities across the United States to attend. Students and alumni with disabilities are invited to interact with employers via chat sessions. Register for the fair, then once you have completed the registration form you will be approved and sent a follow-up email with your user name and password. You may only participate in this Virtual Career Fair if you have an uploaded resume. Instructions on how to upload your resume and attend the fair are included in the student tutorial.
