HR Casual Positions

Casual positions are part-time, non-union, at-will.

With some administrative exceptions, hours worked are not to exceed 19 hours per week Sunday through Saturday.

For some casual positions, additional hours may be worked on a rotational, on-call or as-needed basis.

Specific work schedules are dependent on the Library's operating hours and the relevant department's needs. Most public service positions require some evening and/or weekend hours.

There are no benefits associated with hourly positions.

All pooled positions are casual.

Note: The Library does not offer seasonal employment.

HR Regular Positions

Regular positions are regular full-time or part-time positions, including both exempt and non-exempt employees.

Some regular positions are represented by one of two collective bargaining units at the Library.

Positions not covered by a collective bargaining agreement are at-will positions.

Benefits are associated with regular positions; specific benefits available are determined by any relevant collective bargaining agreement and/or the position’s FTE (full-time equivalency).

Specific work schedules for regular positions are dependent on the Library’s operating hours and the relevant department’s needs.

There are two categories of job postings at the AADL:

Posted Vacancies

Posted Vacancies have a specifically identified application deadline. The vacancies in this category may include full or part-time positions, and may be either regular (with employer-paid benefits) or casual (hourly positions with no benefits). Applications for posted vacancies remain active until the conclusion of the recruitment activity for that specific position. Applications are reviewed after the application deadline, and interviews are generally scheduled within 14-21 days of that date. All applicants for posted vacancies will receive a confirmation of receipt of their application, and will be notified of the outcome of the recruitment process for the position.

Pooled Positions

These positions generally have a higher level of hiring activity than other positions in the Library, and the Library will accept applications for them on an ongoing basis in order to maintain an applicant "pool." All pooled positions are casual, part-time positions, and do not include benefits. Applications which meet the minimum qualifications for the positions remain active for three (3)months from the date received by the Library and will be reviewed by the hiring supervisor for any openings which occur during that period. There may not be current openings for pooled positions at any given time. The hiring supervisor will contact applicants directly if an interview is desired.

Please do not call the Human Resources Office regarding the status of your application. Due to the volume of applications reviewed, and the intermittent nature of the hiring activity, the Human Resources office is not able to provide information regarding the status of any individual application for pooled positions. Applicants will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of their application, but will not be notified of the outcome of each hiring opportunity.
