Muzzy Language Learning for Kids
by lucroe
The library has a new children's language learning database called Muzzy. Currently there are 8 different languages to choose from: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, and Russian. You can use it at home or at the library. The Muzzy animated story and games are a captivating way for kids to learn another language. It was originally a BBC program so those from Europe may recognize it. Learn more about this database here. We also offer the Muzzy multilingual series (it includes a choice of learning English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish) and the separate traditional Chinese language learning version for checkout.
3D Printing with All Hands Active: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday September 22, 2012 -- Downtown Library
by OneillT
Our first 3D Printing Event in June was filled with eager printers of all ages, so we're giving people a chance to come that didn't get a chance the first time or want to learn more!
3D Printing has been featured on CNN, the Colbert Report, and in Time Magazine, and now this technology is coming to the AADL. Learn about how these machines turn computer sketches into objects, watch one work, and practice making and customizing designs.
Led by Ann Arbor's All Hands Active, this workshop will introduce participants to this quickly developing technology. We’ll see how a 3D Printer works to create objects before your eyes, and even experiment with designing some objects using the freely available Google Sketchup. Participants will be able to submit simple designs to be printed and picked up at a later date.
This event will be held in the Training Center on the third floor of the Downtown Library and is intended for all ages.

We're hosting our own Minecraft server and we need you to help us build "Ann Arbor."
Join us IRL (in real life) or in-game to discuss the future of "Ann Arbor" and the server @AADL. It's a great way to meet people you've seen on the server and coordinate new builds.
This event is for adults and teens (grade 6 and up).

Geek Pride Day

"Towel Day", "Glorious 25th of May", or "Star Wars Day", whatever you prefer to call it, May 25th is Geek Pride Day and what better way to celebrate it than by visiting your local library? You don't have to be a Sci-Fi geek, or a math geek to celebrate Geek Pride Day, just celebrate whatever you "geek". "Whatever you geek, the public library supports you." Geek The Library reminds us that "No matter who you are, there are things you are passionate about—things you geek. The Geek the Library project is a community public awareness campaign aimed at spreading the word about the vital and growing role of your public library, and to raise awareness about the critical funding issues many U.S. public libraries face." Think of all the resources your library has to offer, be they entertainment like Star Wars or Douglas Adams books or movies, Homework Help or Test Prep, Foreign Language Materials or Foreign Language Learning from our Services and Research pages that you have access to through our website, our super nifty new Orion Starblast 4.5 Astro Reflector Dobsonian Telescope, or one of our neat Science To Go Kits from our Unusual Stuff to Borrow collection.
