We're Talking....

convo group

...in ESL Conversation Groups at Mallets Creek every Friday from 1:00 to 2:30 in the afternoon, thanks to AADL's partnership with Washtenaw Literacy! Beginning Mondays on December 1st there will be another group at our Pittsfield Branch from 1-2:30 as well. If you know someone who is learning English and would like the chance to practice in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere these are the places to be! There are volunteer training sessions throughout the year as well as other opportunities to chat around town. It's FUN & no experience is necessary!

Aging Gracefully

Coming into Our Years is a gathering at Pittsfield Branch on Sept. 8, 7-8:30 pm, where Jeanne Mackey, MSW, will use song and discussion to recognize and celebrate the opportunities of aging for men and women. AADL has a rich collection of books and other materials full of insight about this topic and the many arts related to it. Just do a keyword search of aging at aadl.org for a listing with reviews.

Grandparents, Kids & Pets!

Wed. April 18 6:30-7:30 pm, Malletts Creek Branch Library

If this sounds like a purrfectly heehaw event, then bring your grandchildren and a photo of a favorite pet, and let's have a horse laugh together! Everyone will get the chance to tell a story about a pet you have now or one from long ago, we'll sing pet songs, and kids can color pictures of many different animals. Before you go, there will be a snack and a chance to borrow a nice picture book to read together, or something about the joys and challanges of being a grandparent.

animanga zine!

Hi everyone!

at tonight's animanga club we talked about starting up an anime/manga zine that would have reviews, other features/writing, fan art, your own characters/other art, stuff about Japanese language and culture--really anything related to the world of anime and manga that you all want to contribute.

we also talked about:
1. editorial board! can everyone who expressed interest in either editing writing or coordinating/editing art please post and remind us of your names?

2. frequency! does about once a month sound good? if that's our goal, we've got to get rolling on SUBMISSIONS for our very first issue.

A Touch of (anime/manga) Evil

Anime Villain #4

February's animanga club is all about VILLAINS! Post to vote for your favorite villain in anime and we'll watch a clip featuring the winner of this unpopularity contest.

Animanga club for teens (grades 6-12) will meet at the Malletts Creek branch of the library on Tuesday, February 7 from 7-8:30 PM in program room A-B. There will be snacks, prizes for those who blog, anime clips to watch, manga and anime to discuss, and so much more.

So...who's evil, nasty, ill-intentioned, or just plain annoying?
Also--Guess the villain in the picture..
