The LEGO Movie on DVD & Blu-ray

Everything is awesome! The LEGO Movie is released today! It was an absolute thrill to see this on the big screen and I can’t wait to watch it again and again. All of the adults I know who saw the film liked it way more than they thought they would. It’s not just a kids movie! It is full of adventure with kind-hearted, funny and amazing characters to build with.

And for the LEGO super fans, mark your calendars for AADL’s 9th annual LEGO Contest on August 7th! Folks of all ages can enter amazing creations for cool prizes. Even if you don’t plan to enter a project, is it an absolute treat to walk into a large room with hundreds of amazing LEGO creations.

AADL 9th Annual LEGO Contest!

Thursday August 7, 2014: 9:00 am to 8:30 pm -- Kensington Court, 610 Hilton Dr.

This event is intended for preschool to adult.

Enter your best LEGO project in AADL’s 9th Annual LEGO Contest, held at Kensington Court near Briarwood Mall. Get complete rules and guidelines here or at aadl.org or any AADL location beginning June 13.

9 AM–3 PM: Drop off projects at Kensington Court
3 PM–6 PM: Doors closed for judging
6 PM: Doors open for public display of all projects
8–8:30 PM: Awards Ceremony with prizes in six categories: Preschool, Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12 & Adult

All projects must go home with their creators that night!

Learn, Build and Play with LEGO

Sunday October 12, 2014: 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room

This event is intended for Grades K-5 with an adult

Join us for an afternoon of LEGO building and learning with trained Bricks 4 Kidz teachers leading the way. Using LEGO Technic sets children will learn, build and play while experiencing a variety of activities designed to foster teamwork, build self confidence and problem solving skills. Bricks 4 Kidz programs aim to explore math and science concepts while having fun in a non-competitive setting.

New Youth Magazines: LEGO Club & LEGO Club Jr.

LEGOs! Will we ever have enough of LEGOs? Probably not. There’s always another set coming out that we just HAVE to have. And with the LEGO Movie recently released, well, some of us are extra LEGO-minded. AADL now has subscriptions for two LEGO magazines for kids.

LEGO Club Magazine (formerly called Bricks Kicks and later LEGO Magazine) features different bits in each issue, such as Lord of the Rings, Lego Castle, Lego Atlantis, Lego City, Lego Legends of Chima. It addition to feature articles the magazine also includes comics, building ideas, cool creations, and games.

LEGO Club Jr. Magazine is aimed at children six and under and features activities, cool creations,and building ideas.

And of course be sure to check out some of the oodles of great LEGO books the library has to offer.

One month until The LEGO Movie is released in theaters! Are you geeked?! Join us for a LEGO adventure! Here’s a chance to get connected with other LEGO-minded people and build great things at the library! During this open-play event we’ll have a load of LEGO bricks for you to use to make cool things as you make new friends. At the end of our open LEGO play time the LEGOs will stay at the library before you head onto your next adventure, but if you want you can have your creation photographed for our LEGO Look Book before you go.
