Congratulations to all of the WINNERS at the 10th Annual LEGO Contest! 2015 is the summer of LEGO Awesome!

Summer 2015 has been the summer of LEGO in all of its interlocking awesomeness and the highlight of EVERY summer, the annual LEGO contest, has come and gone and now it’s time to celebrate! This year we had 200 entries in 6 age categories:

Preschool, Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12 and Adults!

We gave out 24 LEGO trophies, 72 medals and over $500 in gift cards to the winners! As always the house was packed and about 600 people attended to vote of their favorites, see all the projects and experience the Award Ceremony!

Summer 2015 is all about LEGO at AADL!

Thursday, August 6 is our 10th Annual LEGO Contest, hosted at Kensington Court in Ann Arbor for kids, teens and adults! Every year a few children of Library Staff enter the LEGO contest and sadly, no matter how awesome their project is, they can't WIN. To rectify this and to show off the awesome creativity and LEGO enthusiasm of AADL staff, we're filling the Downtown Library display cases with lots of LEGO awesome projects!

AADL staff, family, and friends of staff worked hard to show off their work with unique LEGO structures, built with pieces from favorite sets and everything in between!

This special LEGO display is also part of AADL’s Summer Game 2015! Game codes and other clues will be hidden in the display and LOTS of points will be earned! Go to play.aadl.org for more information about the Summer Game and to learn about earning LEGO badges!

AADL 10th Annual LEGO Contest!

Thursday August 6, 2015: 9:00 am to 8:30 pm -- Kensington Court, 610 Hilton Dr.

This event is intended for adults, teens, and youth in preschool and up.

Enter your best LEGO project in AADL’s 10th Annual LEGO Contest, held at Kensington Court near Briarwood Mall. Get complete rules and guidelines for the 2015 Contest here or at any AADL location beginning June 12. This year we encourage creative usage of "10' in your project.

9 AM–3 PM: Drop off projects at Kensington Court
3 PM–6 PM: Doors closed for judging
6 PM: Doors open for public display of all projects
8–8:30 PM: Awards Ceremony with prizes in six categories: Preschool, Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12 & Adult

All projects must go home with their creators that night!

The History of the Minifigure With Jonathan Bender, author of “LEGO: A Love Story”

Wednesday July 15, 2015: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room

This event is intended for adults, teens, and youth grades 4 and up.

Jonathan Bender, author of LEGO: A Love Story will present the history of the LEGO Minifigure, from the first ones in Denmark to all the varieties available today. You can bring your own minifigures for an opportunity to trade them with other attendees!

This event will also include a hands-on building component, creating minifigure worlds.

The LEGO Movie on DVD & Blu-ray

Everything is awesome! The LEGO Movie is released today! It was an absolute thrill to see this on the big screen and I can’t wait to watch it again and again. All of the adults I know who saw the film liked it way more than they thought they would. It’s not just a kids movie! It is full of adventure with kind-hearted, funny and amazing characters to build with.

And for the LEGO super fans, mark your calendars for AADL’s 9th annual LEGO Contest on August 7th! Folks of all ages can enter amazing creations for cool prizes. Even if you don’t plan to enter a project, is it an absolute treat to walk into a large room with hundreds of amazing LEGO creations.
