Pure Imagination Magic Show

There's nothing like a wacky magic show to liven up a summer day. Magician Chris Linn will bring his Pure Imagination show to Ann Arbor for two performances on Tuesday, July 16. He will be at the Pittsfield Branch at 2:00 p.m. and at the Traverwood Branch at 7:00 p.m.

This is a program for the whole family. All ages are welcome.

Beginning Crochet Class

Have you ever dreamed of turning yarn into something beautiful and exciting? Local crafter Beth Battey will get you started in the wonderful world of crochet with a basic beginners project. Get ready to sink your hooks into this fun form of stitching!

Chess Strategies & Tips With Chess Expert Jennifer Skidmore

Jennifer will share some tips to improve your game, then you can try your skill against other players!

Ms. Skidmore is the 2012 Michigan Amateur Champion. She is currently the Michigan Women's Champion
and has held the title for the last three years. Come learn from one of the best!

Chesstastic is Fantastic

Chess is happening at the Traverwood branch this Sunday, May 19, from 1 - 4 pm. Whether you have time for one rousing game or can stay for the full three hours,
you are welcome. Chess boards are provided. Also, check out materials here for the beginner or advanced player,
and everything in between.

The drop in sessions will start up again in the fall, but next month on June 27, we will have a program led by chess expert,
Jennifer Skidmore held at the Traverwood branch from 7-8:30pm, Grades 4 - Adult.

We're Talking....

...in English as a Second Language conversation group at three of our locations each week. AADL's partnership with Washtenaw Literacy provides us with trained volunteers to help participants get comfortable speaking English. Groups meet Mondays at the Pittsfield Branch from 1:00-2:30 PM; Wednesday at our Traverwood Branch from 7:00- 8:30 PM. There's also a group that meets at Mallets Creek on Fridays from 1-2:30 PM. Participants do not need to register to take part in these groups and can attend as many as they'd like. Please join in the fun this Sunday, April 21, at the Traverwood branch of the Ann Arbor District Library.

Players of all ages and abilities will be dropping by from 1:00 - 4:00 pm and getting in either one or two

games, or possibly staying the full three hours. We have chess books, magazines,

and DVD's to pick from in our collections too. So check out some of these materials. See you Sunday!

Straw Bridge Engineering

If you are a 3rd - 8th grader, come join us today at the Traverwood Branch from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. to test your construction skills! We will be designing and building bridges out of drinking straws and tape. Play around with different supports and designs to see how strong you can make your bridge. You will get a chance to test your bridge at the end and discover if you have what it makes to be a Stupendous Straw Bridge Engineer!

Making Jewelry With Paper Beads

Thursday April 4, 2013: 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

Paper beads are made from scraps of paper rolled up to create easy, beautiful beads that can be added to string to make a fun necklace. Come to Traverwood next week and learn how! We will provide the supplies.

This event is for teens and pre-teens in grades 4 - 12.
