Knowing the rules and strategies of Chess, is only the beginning. You will want to check out books and magazines on technique and challenge yourself against all sorts of players too. We can help with both. For starters, try Knack Chess for Everyone and Chess in Action or place a hold on the magazine, Chess Life, or Chess Life for Kids.
For some practice and fun meet up at the Traverwood branch, November 13, Sunday, from 1-4 pm. We'll have chess boards and snacks, so please stop by.

Many people who have a chronic health condition or disability stop exercising after they experience a big change in their movement abilities. A panel of five exercise specialists from Chelsea, Ann Arbor and Saline will be at the Traverwood Branch on Thursday, Oct. 27, 7-8:30 pm to talk about a much healthier approach for anyone who has had this experience. They will show how fortunate we are in Washtenaw County to have so many resources that integrate medical care with fitness programming. In addition, Chelsea is partnering with Stockbridge and Manchester to help with sustainable access in rural areas. Please come ready to learn and ask questions. This event is part of UM Investing in Ability Week.

Join us for a game or two of Chess on Sunday, October 9, at the Traverwood branch from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Regardless of whether you're ranked or a beginner, you can find a partner. Chess boards are provided.

Casting on, knitting, purling, and casting off, the basics, this is what you can learn. Pick from simple patterns for an easy project. Join this circle of knitters at Traverwood, August 11, 2:00-3:30 PM. Grade 6 to Adult. Bring your own needles and we'll supply a variety of colorful yarns. All knitting begins with a simple slip knot. . .

Ideas and patterns galore can be found in books and magazines at the library. You may want to start with, Creative Knitting : Easy Knitting For Everyone! or Interweave Knits a couple magazines that focus on knitting. Then check out books on hats, gifts, socks, or projects to make with only one skein.

Denise Owens, affiliated with KinderMusik, will lead "JUST! Babies" and their adults in a program of rhythm, music and motion.

This program is for our youngest audience. If you are 1-18 months old and need to get your parents out of the house, come to TRAVERWOOD Branch Library on Friday, July 15, 2011.

This program will run between 6:30 pm and 7:10 pm. No registration is required.
Wear your best onesies, and get ready to roll, rock, clap and kick.
