Join us to create fun jewelry accessories, like keychains and pet tags, using Shrinky Dink material, a "magic" plastic which shrinks down to 1/3 of its original size and becomes nine times thicker when heated briefly in the oven! Kids (grade 4+ please), Teens, and Adults are all welcome!

A Jump Roping Blast

Bring your ropes and rhymes to Jump Roping Blast for a jumpin' good time! We have Chinese, Double-Dutch and standard jump ropes to share. Rain? We'll jump inside. If you need some visuals to help inspire or check out some fancy footwork ahead of time, check out Jump In a movie that tells the story of a young boxer who discovers jump roping while training.

Breakfast In The Library and Other Collages by Karen Gallup

On display at Malletts Creek Branch, June 18 through July 29.
Karen Gallup's collages play with perspective, moving objects out of their natural relationship to one another. She loves to include the implausible and to cause the viewer to do a double take. Her interest in images of books and their colors, texture, size and arrangements, has resulted in the "Library Series", a major part of this exhibition. She lives in Ann Arbor with her husband, Al, and a dog and cat.

Ink Drawings on Paper by Aleksis Lahti

Aleksis Lahti was born in Ann Arbor and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1963 with a BS in design. He also attended the Accademia Di Belle Arte in Florence, Italy. He has been self-employed since 1967 doing architectural, interior, product, and graphic design, and has taught drawing at Lawrence Technological University for more than thirty years.
According to the artist, "These new drawings just happen. I add small elements of line or color a little at a time. Any of these drawings could go on and on. They are finished only because I stop drawing. The line or color cannot be removed. I can only go forward not back." The drawings will be on display at Malletts Creek Branch from May 2 through June 16, 2009.

It's May !!!
It's time to celebrate May Day and Cinco de Mayo and Springtime !
Come to Malletts Creek Branch on Saturday, May 2, between 1:00-2:30pm.
We will make "Dulce Senoritas".
A "Dulce Senorita" is a Guatamalan party decoration that hides sweet treats inside.
This Craft is for kids in grades k-5. Kids in grades k-2 may require individual attention. Kids will decorate a paper cone with colored paper, and hide the sweets inside to take home.

Healthy Food for Healthy Kids

Staff of the Washtenaw County Extension Services Food and Nutrition Program will be at the Malletts Creek Branch on Saturday, April 25 from 10-11:30am to answer these questions and more!
Busy families will learn quick and easy ways to make balanced and nutritious food choices that are actually tasty, using all of the food groups. Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats all play a key role in keeping our bodies healthy and active. A food demonstration will also show just how quick and easy it can be. The Story Of The Boll Weevil Jass Band

Travel back in time to the late 1950’s when a new jazz band made up of a motley crew of residents and students was formed in Ann Arbor. Known as the Boll Weevil Jass Band (aka The Weevils) they played gigs at fraternity and sorority houses and staged several public concerts. On Sunday, April 19, 3pm - 4:30pm at Malletts Creek Branch, music expert (and co-founder of the Weevils) Mike Montgomery will discuss Dixieland Jazz in Ann Arbor and play excerpts from Weevil recordings to illustrate the various musical conventions used, such as breaks, stop-time, after beats, double-time and changing keys.

The Ann Arbor Brewers Guild Discusses Better Beer through Homebrewing

At the Malletts Creek Branch on Saturday, April 18, 2pm to 3:30pm, local homebrewer Jeff Renner will describe the many different kinds of beer and how you can make them yourself at home. He will also demonstrate basic and advanced brewing techniques.
