Buhhrrrrr! It's Cold Out There!

I guess the groundhog was right: it certainly doesn’t look like spring is coming any time soon! But if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right? Buhr Park Outdoor Ice Arena, just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Malletts Creek Branch, will help you get into the spirit! They offer open skating as well as ice hockey and even broom ball in their arena, and a cooled subfloor allows for skating even when it’s warm(ish) outside! Better hurry, though: the arena closes for the season March 16.

The Midwife's Apprentice

I read Catherine, Called Birdy when I was a freshman in high school and very much enjoyed it, so this was a natural choice to look at now. I found the story of The Midwife’s Apprentice to be more melancholy than that of Catherine but still good.

Brat’s journey and her many names of Brat, Beetle, and finally Alice show her development over time from homeless urchin to a girl who knows what she wants and will do anything to be the Midwife’s Apprentice.
