Otaku Afternoon - Wizzywig, Cosplay, DDR, Go and Anime...

DSKittehDSKitteh

How better to spend a Sunday afternoon than 5 hours in the basement of the Downtown Library!? We start @ 12 when the library opens with DDR, Wizzywig will be there to sell there wares, and help judge the Cosplay contest (btw no one showed to the contest this summer - which left many $$s in Wizzywig gift certificates unclaimed - don't let this tragedy happen again!) and gab. Then from 2:00-3:00 or so members from the A2 Go Club (including our own Joy) will be on hand to teach and play this ancient, strategic, fun board game. After that we'll be screening anime until 5:00. Food and drinks of course and hopefully you and many friends will be on hand.

Found in Heeb Magazine: Davy Rothbart

Heeb October issueHeeb October issue

Local media icon and Found Magazine creator was pictured as one of the top 20 people to watch (who happen to be Jewish) in the fall issue of Heeb Magazine. The magazine paired the individuals with their favorite photographer. Davy’s cheesy snapshot was taken by Sears Portrait Studio, reminiscent of a 3rd grade school photo. Oy vey!

2006 winner of the "Premio Tusquets Editories de Novela"

Evelio Rosero, the Columbian author of several novels as well as stories for children and teens and previous winner of the Columbian National Literature Award, won the Premio Tusquets Editories de Novela in 2006 for his book Los Ejercitos, a novel about a small Columbian town that is devastated by fighting that erupts between various armed factions in Columbia. Told through the narrator Ismael, a retired teacher who is losing his memory, Criticas Magazine says the book has "undeniable elegance and a masterly command of the Spanish language, and offers a profound exploration of human life in the face of irrational violence."
Reserve this book through the library catalog or look for it on the shelf on the third floor of the downtown library in the foreign language collection.
