NEW books for kids who are reading "thin" chapter books are always coming in. I see the following NEW titles by Kate DiCamillo on the shelf, Mercy Watson Goes For A Ride and Mercy Watson Fights Crime. Mercy Watson joins Babe, and Wilbur in delightful pig literature. If you already found Mercy Watson To The Rescue you will like these additions. You can also find them in audio-book for car rides. =)

Pet & Wildlife Photo Contest - WINNERS!

Our first annual Pet & Wildlife Photo Contest was a huge success! Over 40 entries were received and winners were chosen in 4 categories: Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12. Visit the Downtown Youth Department anytime during the month of March to see ALL of the entries. This evening, March 12, was the award ceremony and every winner in each category was in attendance. First place got a $25 gift certificate to Borders and Honorable Mention got a a $10 gift certificate for Borders. Without further ado the winners are…

Time is running out to submit your photo of a pet or wild animal! Drop your entry off by 9:00 PM this Thursday, March 8 - at the Downtown Library Youth Department Desk. Winners in 4 categories (Grades K-2; Grades 3-5; Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12) will be awarded gift certificates to Borders at the Awards Ceremony on Monday, March 12, 7:00-8:00 PM at the Downtown Library Youth Department. Trust in your children

Parenting advices comes from many sources, but when was the last time that you read advice from a Holocaust hero? Polish author Janusz Korczak wrote parenting guides and children's books before his death in a concentration camp in 1939. A new collection of his writings advocates taking children seriously. This article in NPR has an excerpt from the book, and the library has one of the stories he wrote for children: King Matt the First.
