What's the coolest type of air bending? Join us this Thursday @ the Northeast Branch from 7-8:30 as we discuss an American spin on anime, Avatar The Last Airbender. Baby Bits - Dance Into April !

Join us at Malletts Creek Branch Library on Saturday, April 7, at 11:00 am for Mother Goose Singing and Dancing Games with musicians "Miss Sara" Melton-Keller and "Banjo Betsy" Beckerman.
Every year, April means Dancing Babies at the Library.
Dancing Babies celebrates "Month of the Young Child" AND the Library's partnership with First Steps Washtenaw. Both organizations care deeply about young families and early literacy. Come and lift your knees to the notes.

Parents need all the help they can get! looking for credibility? For blogging parents, the following recommendations were noted in the March 2007 issue of School Library Journal. Parenthacks provides "Sound practical advice served up in straightforward entries that still manage to be smart". Sample articles are "Email for the Underage", "Sleep (ours and theirs)", "Recording your kids promises with a digital camera". Parentography is a recently launched "online forum for families on the go, with excursion ideas, ratings, and family-friendly places".

History Bits - Saving People 1945

If your child is old enough to experience world history, and they are ready for Schindler's List, they could be interested in more on the subject. Paper Clips is the true story of a school project in rural Tennesee that was designed to build and understand the concept of 6 million, and crime against humanity. The Children of Chabannes is the story of a village in central France that protected over 400 Jewish children who were sent away from Nazi occupied homes in search of safety. Sugihara is the story of the Japanese consul to Lithuania who defied Tokyo and wrote hundreds of transit visas for Jews to flee through Russia to Japan and other countries.

It is amazing how the honest language and direct approach of certain authors grabs you immediately. Alabama Moon by Watt Key is a first novel and a great ride. Ten year old Moon has lived in the forest with his government-hating father his whole life. When he is forced into civilization and encounters jail, bullies and other troubling experiences, he survives by using the instinct and intelligence that helped him in his former life. Moon is a spitfire and this is a fun and moving adventure read for teenagers.
