Hands-On Science with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

Join us on Tuesday, November 25 at 6:30 pm for this hands-on science workshop. Learn some science experiments and watch some cool demos based on traditional and new concepts in science and engineering. All kids (by age or at heart) are welcome! It's a night guaranteed to make you want to be a scientist or engineer. Presented by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Proyecto Avance: Latino Mentoring Association (PALMA) from the University of Michigan.

In October the first World Mind Sports Games was held in Beijing. Here are the results of team competition. This month The Chess Olympiad will be underway in Dresden, Germany during November 12-25.

Election Buzz!

There are two fun programs this Sunday, November 2 in honor of the exciting election time:

Calling all Kindergarten through Third Graders to our Pittsfield Branch at 1:00 pm! Watch your chains of colorful links grow and you will see which jungle animal wins the election. Make a “Freedom" hat, balloon animals and a great big mural with ink stamps!

Calling all Fourth and Fifth Graders to our Traverwood Branch at 4:00 pm! Come decorate a tote to celebrate the vote and help make apple crisp too!

A Book for Very Brave Readers

Here's a great book to summon Halloween nightmares, The Gruesome Guide to World Monsters, by Judy Sierra, with horrifying illustrations by Henrik Drescher. The monsters are drawn from folklore around the world, and each is assigned a “gruesomeness rating,” from Frightening to Fatal. 'Tweens and teens should take this book, to scare themselves and their friends, when they go to AXIS Coffeehouse: Halloween SPECIAL EDITION.

Toddlers: Tired of Your Toys?

Parents: Could your preschooler’s playroom use peppier provisions? Come visit the Toy Library at Bryant Community Center. The toys are gently used, in good condition and there’s no time limit to borrow them. Toys are free for all Ann Arbor families. The library will be open on Thursdays from 1:00-3:30 pm. However, this Friday October 24th is the Grand Opening! Come take a look at the wide range of toys available for the borrowing!
