Little Folk Mania Continues

We have so many fairy fans coming into the Downtown Library to visit the tiny tricky ones who have moved into the fairytale section. When we see a book filled with fairy magic we just have to tell you about it. Barb Bentler Ullman’s story The Fairies of Nutfolk Wood, is about broken hearted Willa Jane who discovers a world of little people in the forest. Her brand new big and little friends bring adventure, fun and healing into her life.

Dizzy by Jonah Winter

There was a small boy who often got into fights. One day his teacher gave him a trumpet. He blew all his anger into that trumpet and thus one of the greatest Jazz musicians of all times was born. Dizzy Gillespie. Dizzy by Jonah Winter is a tribute to one of America’s most famous and loved musicians.

Ice Carving Extravaganza in Ann Arbor

snowflakesnowflake

Embrace the icy weather by visiting the Ice Carving Extravaganza on Main Street. Watch members of the UM ice carving team carve ice into detailed sculptures on the sidewalks of downtown Ann Arbor on Feb. 9 from 6-10 PM and Feb. 10 from 10-6 PM. The sculptures will remain on display as long as the wintry weather continues. Bundle up!

On your walk downtown, stop at the library to warm up and pick out some good books to read by the fire. Some of my favorites are Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and One Winter’s Day by Christina Butler

Bone

For those of you who don't know, Bone is one of those graphic novels that defies categories. It has the feel to it of a Sunday comic with all of its humor and silly punch lines mixed with the dark, compelling, complex storyline of a graphic novel. Cute-ish blobby characters exist right alongside beautifully detailed characters and backgrounds. It makes your head spin. Jeff Smith does a wonderful job of creating almost cinematic moments and the continuing storyline has depth enough to keep you hooked. Monsters, dragons, adventure. Think early Disney with a little edge and a storyline that's on going. Great for kids or adults. Published complete as one big volume in black and white (Bone 1 Volume ed.) or now coming out in color, of which there are 5 volumes so far...
1- Bone: Out From Boneville
2- Bone: Great Cow Race
3- Bone: Eyes of the Storm
4- Bone: Dragonslayer
5- Bone: Rock Jaw
