Another Time Saving Device

Looking for ways to save time? The Library is here to help. Now you can sign up for a computer class or an event that requires registration without making a phone call or walking away from your computer. Simply login to your Library account on the My Account page and find the program or class you want to register for. Click “Register Now” and follow the directions. My Account keeps a handy list of your registrations, and you can cancel registrations through My Account too. Check it out and save some time!

Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down

Have you ever suggested a book or an author to a friend? Why not take the next step and write a book review on aadl.org? You will help add to the Library's online reviews, and who knows, you might even introduce someone to their next great read! There are CDs and DVDs to review as well. It’s easy and fun to do. Login to your online Library account My Account. Go to the Catalog and find the item you want to review. Click "Write a Review" and inspire someone today!

Great Adventures With Your Camera

Whether you spend your vacation traveling across the country or in your own back yard, there are always opportunities to take photos. Digital cameras provide new options for taking close-up photos of your favorite gardening project and also those bright light pictures you may want to take at the beach. If you'd like to learn more about digital cameras and photos, check out our Digital Camera 101 and Digital Camera 102 classes being offered this fall. Registration for classes will begin in mid-August, and there is no charge to attend.

Waiting For You

Did you know the Traverwood Branch has two wonderful features not offered at our other branches? Parking is available underneath the branch. This includes handicapped parking and bike racks. The entrance for the underground lot is on Huron Parkway. An elevator as well as stairs are available to take you from the parking area to the Library’s lobby. Not only does the underground parking give you easy access to the Library, but it also provides shelter for you in inclement weather. Come to the Traverwood Branch and check out these new features waiting for you.

A Cool Place To Be

Whether it’s a steamy July afternoon or a cold January morning, the Ann Arbor District Library is always a cool place to be. Escape from the heat with your laptop to any of our locations and hookup to our Wifi. Relax and read a newspaper in a cozy chair in the reading room at our Malletts Creek Branch. Browse the latest dvds in our collection. Enjoy the woodsy atmosphere of our new Traverwood Branch. It’s all there for you to enjoy year round at the Ann Arbor District Library.

John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel of 2007

The Campbell Award (and a list of previous winners) named In War Times by Kathleen Ann Goonan the Best Science Fiction Novel of 2007. The award was created to honor the late editor of Astounding Science Fiction magazine (now called Analog). Many writers and scholars call Campbell, who edited the magazine from 1937 until his death in 1971, the father of modern science fiction.

You might remember back in January 2008, In War Times was picked as the best 2007 SF novel by the American Library Association's Reading List Council Genre Fiction Awards. For a list of the major literary award winners, check out our new service : BookLetters.

Summer Tutor Training with Washtenaw Literacy

Teen Summer Reading Game: Flexible and Fun

There has been a bit of confusion about the Teen Summer Reading Game.

The Teen Summer Reading Game offers a variety of activities that 6-12 graders can do in order to finish the game and be entered into the grand prize drawings. This list of activities is meant as a suggestion, to give teens ideas for completing the Summer Reading Game. Our hope is to make the game fun and flexible.

Teens, we want you to be able to enjoy the game whether reading "great novels", or rocking out to Guitar Hero (or both) is your idea of a good time.

So, can you play the game by reading 10 books? Sure you can.

Can you play the game by coming to 10 library programs? Sure you can.

Can you come up with the best combination for you? Of course.

AADL Video on Demand

For years, thousands of people have enjoyed the variety and quality of programming at the Ann Arbor District Library. But who has the time or energy to attend all of the interesting looking events? Fret no longer, because Video on Demand is up and running! Just browse the extensive list of programs, and select one to view on your computer or download to an iPod anytime at no charge.
