Because of this, I never read another in the series. I can only hope Ms. Meyer came to her senses and strengthened Bella in future installments. I couldn't bear to waste my reading time to find out.
I agree that is is a teen's book in many ways, but adults enjoy it too. It was light and frothy, a true page-turner. A little mystery, a lot of romance, just the thing for fun reading. Until the end. If Stephanie Meyer had allowed her heroine Bella to lift even one small finger to help herself escape certain doom, I would forgive her all the tired old sexist things in her book. But no. Bella sits and waits to be rescued. She cowers in a corner - thoroughly pathetic. I would have hoped that a modern heroine would do something, anything, to defeat the Evil and save herself, even if she needed the help of "her man" to finally escape.
Because of this, I never read another in the series. I can only hope Ms. Meyer came to her senses and strengthened Bella in future installments. I couldn't bear to waste my reading time to find out.
