For reference, I'm experienced with drop spindles and had a little experience spinning on a wheel before using this wheel. I found it pretty straightforward to set up and use, and by the end of my two-week checkout period I'd managed to make some decent yarn with it. It's not the most flexible wheel out there - there are only two (fairly low) ratios available, which limits the different types of yarn you're going to be able to make - but if you're in a position of learning (and have someone to help) or practicing basic skills, it's a good wheel to work with.

If you're utterly inexperienced but want to learn spinning, the reference materials included in the kit are helpful but probably won't replace a human teacher.

(also, if you're using the included niddy-noddy to measure finished yarn, be aware that it's 5 feet per wrap rather than 2 yards...)
