An outstanding view of the Great Depression from a young Black girl's vantage point. I read this one myself (i.e. not with my kids) because I had seen it for so long in the indie book store's window, and was really curious.

Yep. Really good. Well-written characters, insightful about the time, useful perspective on race during the Great Depression. I'll encourage my son to read this (he loved _Bud Not Buddy_, also by this author) and will definitely read this with my daughter.
