Madeleine Albright weaves together tales of her family's diplomatic past with events during World War II and the trials of the people of Czechoslovakia. It is meticulously researched and warmly written. I must admit, the early, ancient history of Czechoslovakia was challenging, but the lead up to WWII and the rise of Hitler pulled me in. I learned much about the lead up to the war, the war itself, and then what went on in the post war era in that part of the world. The author gives us glimpses of her perceptions as a child growing up during a chaooic time in a chaotic part of the world. I thoroughly enjoyed this remembrance and have a renewed respect for the author.
