This book is a mixture of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Set in 1930s New York, it follows the life of a young woman, Katey, trying to step out of the role of what is expected of women in that day and age. The prose is eloquent and the story paints a vivid image of what life in NY was like in the 1930s. Kick off your shoe, mix yourself a shaker of martinis and let yourself enter the world of social class, late night parties and rising above what is expected of you. Be warned, this book is hard to put down! I spent a few late nights engulfed in its rich prose.
