kind of clever, but too predictable

Granted, I'm probably not the intended audience (I previewed it to see if I thought my 11yo son would like it), but I felt like the plot was way too predictable. There were too many stereotypical characters and situations (goth girl with a brain and heart of gold, aloof gorgeous girl falls for dumb cowardly jock, slightly dweeby boy protagonist gets involved in too many things but ends up on top in the end, etc). And honestly, could every single high-school-freshman-cliche happen to one kid? I don't think so.

However, Scott's lists and notes to his unborn sibling are clever. I especially liked the English teacher / class, and how the author is able to teach some literary devices without being too obvious. :^)
