I've read this about 4 times. I won't characterize it as junk. I think those characterizations are misogynistic. Susann was a genius within the book publishing and marketing industry. But those achievements aside, this book changed the course of twentieth-century literature in English. She "gave the people" (women and gay men) what they wanted to read. And she did it very well.
